Way back in June, Statman developed a new advanced stat which would look at individual player contributions to the team's wins and losses. It's a fresh way to look at who did what and what it meant to the overall performance of the team. Today, he's putting his system to the test. Check it out after the jump.

There's only so much analysis I can do during and immediately after games. Typically, I try to pick one or two things to keep an eye on, plus the rotation charts. Luckily, we now have ways to take a closer look at what happened and try to determine why. Going forward, this series will use the tools available to examine some key facets of the game and gauge how well the Sixers are winning (or losing) certain statistical battles.

A 10-point loss typically isn't considered a good start to a season, but under the circumstances, the Sixers equated themselves quite well against Dwyane Wade and his sidekicks. The 97-87 final was better than we could've hoped for, definitely not indicative of the talent gap between the two teams, but perhaps a testament to the skill of the Sixers' new coach.

Under seven hours until the tip. If you have a firm grasp on what Doug Collins plans to do with his substitutions in tonight's game, you're a better man than I. Still, we've studied the preseason, we're familiar with the roster so let's see if we can't make an educated guess to pass the time. There's your starting PG, SG, SF combo, folks. J.T.I. has been put on hold in favor of J.I.K. Spencer Hawes limped into the starting lineup, literally. Elton Brand is your starting PF by default. A team with ten times as many questions as answers will be put to the test immediately by Wade and his sidekicks. Let's break it down.
