Well, not really. The Sixers put the screws to the Orlando Magic on the defensive end for about 45 minutes tonight. It was only after Stan Van Gundy threw in the towel that the Sixers took their foot off the gas and allowed the Magic to backdoor their way into a five-point defeat. (game capsule).

Dwight Howard does not want to come to Philadelphia...yet. Howard may be seeking the limelight, or a cushier existence in terms of who he plays with, or lucrative endorsement deals, or national exposure beyond what Orlando provides, or maybe even a ring. Whatever his motivations may be, until he signs a contract elsewhere, the Sixers are in the game. The only thing the Sixers can do to win Howard's favor is to sell themselves as an organization. Hammering the Magic on the floor tonight would be a good first step.

It's gotten to the point where every single thread is being hijacked with the Turner vs. Meeks discussion, and really nothing has been added to the conversation by either side in the first month of the season, so it's time to segregate these discussions. This is pretty much a non-rumor, but it's also early Sunday morning and there isn't much else going on, so why not toss it out there. CSN is reporting the Sixers checked in with the Knicks on Amare Stoudemire's availability. It was described as nothing more than "due diligence" but let's break it down anyway.

The Sixers impressed tonight with their play, to be sure, but what was perhaps more impressive was their energy. On the second night of a back-to-back, against a bad team, with a series of games against strong teams on the horizon, the Sixers showed a relentless focus and put the Pistons away for their 14th win of the season. The Sixers followed up probably their best two quarters of basketball with twelve minutes more minutes of top-notch defense only to see their bench warmers limp to the finish in tonight's 17-point win over the Bobcats. (game capsule).
