Unfortunately, the Lakers took out the Phoenix Suns in game six on Saturday night. The silver lining, though, is the beginning of the Doug Collins era as head coach of our beloved Philadelphia 76ers. After the jump, a few quotes to show you why.

It makes me sick to my stomach to say this, but I think we should probably be rooting for the Lakers to finish off the Suns tonight in Arizona. Not because Kobe's from the Philly area, not because I think the Lakers have a better shot of destroying the Celtics, simply because we need Doug Collins in Philadelphia, working with the current Sixers and working out Evan Turner, John Wall, Derrick Favors, DeMarcus Cousins and whoever else comes in for private workouts.

The latest debate being kicked around in the comments centers around exactly how much cap space the Sixers will have next summer, how they can get more and who they should spend it on. My response to this line of discussion is...please, stop. Don't do it to yourself.

I took another look at Doug Collins' first press conference as the Sixers head coach earlier tonight. Then I listened to him being interviewed by a couple of Philly sports talk characters again. This time, I wasn't so much trying to figure out what type of coach he's going to be, I was more interested in how much control he's going to have over the roster.

I've been thinking about this question for a while, but it's a good time to write something about it given Brian's post from earlier today. We hear this stated authoritatively all the time by Sixer fans of varying degrees of understanding: "Andre Iguodala is not a shooting guard." Even Doug Collins stated yesterday that Iguodala's natural position is small forward. But practically speaking, what is the difference between a shooting guard and and a small forward? And do all great shooting guards have to be great shooters? My thoughts after the jump.

If you believe the national press, the Sixers are looking at a less-than ideal fit with the number two pick. They think Evan Turner won't work with Andre Iguodala. I disagree, but that's not what today's topic will be. After the jump, I've got a question for all the Iguodala haters out there, so go ahead, come out of the woodwork. Your input is requested.

I'm convinced Chad Ford is out of his mind. He continues to beat the drum that the Sixers are likely to trade the #2 pick (a) because Turner doesn't fit with Iguodala and (b) because other teams are interested in moving up and (c) because Doug Collins is in a "win now" situation. Let's throw some cold water on Ford's faulty logic after the jump.

The coach is in place. The season of misery led to an improbably, almost miraculous result in the lottery and the number two pick in next month's draft is waiting. Ed Stefanski appears to be secure in his position as general manager for the time being. Certainty should be the word that describes the past week. Feel free to call me a pessimist, but I'm still left with a number of questions. Foremost among them, what does ownership expect from Stefanski and Collins in 2010-2011?

One of the rumors people keep trying to push involves the Sixers dropping down to #4 in the draft. The logic is that Minnesota loves Turner and they want to move up. The scenarios involve either Elton Brand ('s contract) or Andre Igoudala, among other things. After Friday's measurements from the pre-draft combine, I'm officially saying I don't care what Minnesota offers, there's no way I'd make that deal.
